Afterschool Science Club stands in the hall for one piece of craft carried all the way through: the wavering of a hypnotized mind, rendered in the lettering of its speech balloons.

It is a short adult work that takes up the teacher–student relationship through the subject of hypnosis, set in a school after hours. An injury means a girl's mother still drives her to and from school, and while she waits she spends the afternoon in the science room, watching animal videos beside an easy-going teacher. That is the whole premise. Its twenty-two pages are built as a double exposure: the afternoon the girl believes she is having, and the afternoon hypnosis has rewritten.

The craft lives in the balloons. Under hypnosis the words the girl hears bend, overlap, bleed and go out. Showing a mind's unsteadiness through the breakdown of lettering rather than through the drawing is something separate readers have singled out on their own. The drawing works under the same restraint, and readers note again and again that, for all the weight of the subject, the page never turns coarse. That several reviews come from readers who identify themselves as women belongs in the record too.

The circle Fukafuka is the doujin name of the manga artist Sekiya Asami. Debuting in commercial magazines in 2002, Sekiya has published five adult collections in a little over twenty years — a sparing hand long placed high in readers' polls. This book was distributed at Comic Market 102 in the summer of 2023. Houkago Kanojo Gokko, a 2025 work that carries the same "afterschool" name, is also in the hall.

Reviews frequently name an advertisement as the reason for buying, a sign that the book reached well beyond the readership of commercial magazines. No doujin manga on DLsite has been downloaded more. Official editions circulate in ten further languages, English, simplified and traditional Chinese, and Korean among them. In the hall it is 1st among doujin works, and first in both the Hypnosis and Loli divisions.
