Idol Sister stands in the hall as Ohtomo Takuji's second collection: a book that reached the upper places of the annual store charts in print and spread beyond its pages, from a drama CD to animation.
It collects two long stories. The five-chapter title story is a harem story built around a younger sister who stands at the centre of a popular idol group and her idol-fan older brother, drawing in the other members of her group; its subject is incest between brother and sister. The six-chapter Risa is a school romance in which the daughter of the school's chairman meets again the student teacher who once saved her life and gives him her single-minded devotion.
Where reviews converge is on the construction, two long stories of very different colour set side by side. The glamour of show business and a young lady's steadfast love set each other off. Several readers also point to a brisk tempo and a tone that keeps away from dark turns.
In print it came out in Fujimi Shuppan's Fujimi Comics line, as a limited edition with a drama CD in January 2012 and as a regular edition that July. The digital edition followed in 2015 as a complete edition with a previously uncollected one-shot added.
The limited edition placed seventh in Toranoana's weekly book chart just after release and fifth in its annual book ranking for that year. An OAD came with the limited edition of the next book, Katekano, and in 2017 a Blu-ray appeared with the OVA and the drama CD. The English-language database MangaUpdates carries an entry for it. It stands 119th among the hall's commercial works.
