APPRECIATION ── BY EHOF

The EHOF hall has two doors: one opened by sales figures, the other by the record of awards. “Onee-san to Aishiacchaou!” came in through the second. What carried it there was a judgement made in the print era: the year after the book came out on paper, it was named a Pick Up in Kono Ero-Manga ga Sugoi! 2015.

It is an adult collection of love stories between older women and younger men, and most of its heroines are around forty. At its centre is Parabola☆Strawberry, a three-part series about a university student working as a private tutor and the mother of his pupil. Around it are gathered other pairings across an age gap, among them a woman manager and a younger colleague, and an assistant professor and a student from her seminar.

Readers on both stores point to the care with which a heroine's feelings are shown wavering and then shifting once a younger man has made his own plain. Small details of daily life, a panel of hair still tousled from sleep, a woman slapping her own cheeks to steady herself, give the book its warmth.

Asagi Ryuu debuted in 1998 and, after a break, returned in 2006. This title extends a line that runs through Onee-san ga Suki and Onee-san to Koi Shiyou, each naming an older woman; a fan blog devoted to the artist judges that, among the collected volumes, this is where that line took its basic form.

The stories first ran in Comic Penguin Club Sanzokuban. The print edition came from Fujimi Shuppan in November 2014, and the digital edition followed in February 2015. It stands 230th among the hall's commercial works.

The figures are an automated tally of public data from DLsite (commercial) and FANZA Books; nothing is adjusted by hand. The score and the ranking follow the formulas published in full in the Selection Criteria. The appreciation text is written by EHOF and has no connection to the rights holders or the retailer.
