The otokonoko story, built around a boy who dresses as a girl, stands or falls on whether the drawing can persuade. Shounen Collect stands in the hall because Shimaji builds that persuasion one short story at a time, and because the book found readers on both the men's and the women's shelves.
Published under Media-X's EROS BOYS COMICS imprint, it collects twelve stories from the anthology magazine Otokonoko HEAVEN and adds new material. Every story centres on a boy in girls' clothes, and the official genre tags include shota as well. A three-part series anchors the book, and the stories with happy endings and those with dark ones come out roughly even.
What reviewers name together is the drawing: several say the art is what makes the subject work at all. More than one describes it as the book that first brought them into otokonoko stories.
Shimaji had published a book with Angel Shuppan early in that same year, 2013, and this one followed it. Later books came from other publishers, continuing through 2024.
The print edition came out in December 2013. In Toranoana's monthly chart for that month it entered the adult books ranking for men and placed second in the adult books ranking for women. The digital edition followed in 2015, and that summer it was picked up in Kono Ero-Manga ga Sugoi! 2015 Summer. It ranks 223rd among the hall's commercial works.
