The story quietly overturns what its title promises. Utakata, subtitled Uraaka Do-M Haken OL Onaho Choukyou, stands in the hall for filling in the lives of two adults with nowhere to belong, and as the first book of a series that grew from it.
When a rumor about a secret social-media account spreads through her office, Hinano, a temp worker, is called in by her superior and confides her own desires to him, and the two enter a dominant-submissive relationship. Its subjects are an age gap between boss and subordinate, an affair with a married man, and SM and training. This is the first book of the series.
Where the title suggests a story that begins with threats, the relationship begins because she wants it, a reversal several readers remark on. What reviewers agree on is the backstory. She lives under her mother's control at home; he is treated with contempt by his family. Neither has a place at home, and the way their frustrations meet gives the relationship its weight. The sadness that seeps through his memories is noted too.
It is the biggest success of Yuzuriai, a circle active since 2018. The series ran to a fourth volume in 2023, and the later volumes held their ratings.
It was released in April 2021. Doujin titles carrying the word uraaka, a secret account, do not appear at all through 2016 and numbered 27 in 2021; the book can be read as belonging to the moment such accounts took root as subject matter. It stands 101st among the hall's doujin works.
