It locates the cause of the loss less in the strength of the one who takes than in the hesitation of the two who lose. Otokotomodachi no You na Ore no Osananajimi ga, Yarichin ni Yotte Mesu ni Saserareru Hanashi stands in the hall as a doujin that won its readers with that construction and went on to a two-volume print edition and a live-action adaptation.
The protagonist and his childhood friend, a university student he has always treated like one of the guys, care for each other but cannot say so. A drinking party for four, thrown by his friend, becomes the turning point, and her heart drifts toward that friend, a man with a girlfriend and many other women besides. It is an adult doujin manga of the netorare, or NTR, type.
Reviewers agree first on the realism of a story set in motion by a missed chance between two people already in love. Its willingness to follow the heroine's own conflict, not only the protagonist's, also draws comment. Readers note the full-colour run of about 100 pages and the way colour carries the atmosphere of dim rooms.
The artist, Ubuo, released it as the second work from the circle Ubuo-ya. Several readers write that they picked it up after seeing the free preview on social media at the time. Two sequels followed.
It went on sale on FANZA in September 2021 and on DLsite the following month, and in 2023 nearly every page was reworked. In May and June that year GOT published it in print as two volumes, and it was also adapted as a live-action video and a voice comic. It ranks 176th among the hall's doujin works.
