An adult comic drawn by the rules of a ghost story. Kaishoku Suru Ori ~Yama de Kaii ni Miirareta Watashi~ stands in the hall as a book that makes its horror staging the heart of the reading.
Its source is Hasshaku-sama, an internet ghost story first told on a message board in 2008. Where the legend gives the apparition a woman's form, this work makes it male. The protagonist lets the mountain apparition that has appeared before her into the house, and from that moment the story moves toward ruin. It is a monster story dealing with a non-consensual relationship with the apparition.
The strengths readers agree on all lie in how the fear is built. The apparition has no feelings and no lines; it utters only the "po" sound of the legend. The moment cited by the most readers is a single panel near the end, where a quiet trace of the family lets the reader work out alone what has happened. The book avoids explicit gore and closes in a way that can be read as either rescue or ruin.
This is the only work by the circle Kamatsubakinme, whose artist is Matutaro. It appeared on DLsite in November 2021 and half a year later on FANZA, shelved among titles for women, and reviews by readers who identify as women stand out. As doujin portrayals of Hasshaku-sama multiplied, this one chose a form unlike most of them.
Official translations exist in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean and Portuguese. It entered the hall on DLsite sales alone and stands 127th among the hall's doujin works.
