Even a long-running series begins with a single episode. Tomodachi no Mama ga Boku no Dekachin de Ikimakutta Hanashi stands in the hall as the starting point of a series that has been continued on FANZA alone.

It is a 33-page short released by the doujin circle RK-2 on New Year's Eve 2021. Its narrator is a boy who has long carried a torch for an older married woman, the mother of his friend, and the story shows how things between the two begin. Its subjects are an age gap, a friend's mother, and an affair with a married woman.

The design of this first episode is spare. The cast is held to little more than the two of them, and the husband is kept off the page. Some readers say they value the absence of any extra characters, and the clarity of the art and premise, along with the brisk pacing, are also singled out.

RK-2 has not made a personal name public and since 2021 has released its work only on FANZA. The series that starts here has gone on to change its setting from a trip to Christmas, a day at the beach and a graduation, and a new instalment appeared as recently as 2026.

Among doujin comics on DLsite, titles naming a friend's mother more than doubled from one year to the next in 2023. As a FANZA exclusive, this book falls outside that count, but it can be read as one that appeared shortly before the subject spread. It climbed to third in FANZA's overall 24-hour doujin ranking. It stands 77th among the hall's doujin works.
