For three straight years from 2012, a Hisasi collection took first or second place in the annual chart at Toranoana's Akihabara Store A. Koakuma Kanojo stands in the hall as the signature work at the centre of that run, the one that took the top spot.
It is a collection of eleven short stories built around fantasy figures such as devils, angels and elves, using the title word koakuma, little devil, in both its senses: an actual demon, and a word for a certain temperament. It includes Katakoi, a linked series set at a school of magic, and its official genres include fantasy and gender transformation.
What readers name, year after year, is the drawing, singling out the dynamic compositions and the force of the double-page spreads. The fantasy settings serve the shaping of characters more than the building of a world, and one reader notes that the characters of each story stay in the memory.
It is the second collection, published two months after the first, Porno Switch, and according to the publisher it includes the artist's debut work. Hisasi also does a good deal of illustration for general audiences. The book was later adapted as an adult anime, and as a novel.
The print edition came from Kill Time Communication in January 2013. It holds 13th on the all-time list at Toranoana's Akihabara Store A, and placed 8th that year in FANZA's annual mail-order ranking of print comics. The digital edition followed the same year, and an English edition was published by Project-H. It stands 87th among the hall's commercial works.
