A hand that can tell one expression from the next, and a comic tone that stays bright throughout. Aheochi 3-byoumae stands in the hall as the most widely read of Sanagi Torajiro's books.
Three linked series make up the volume. The three-chapter Love & Less opens it; Sun to Witch, six chapters with an epilogue, sits at its centre; the two-chapter Utakata Omoi brings it to a close. Official genre listings classify it as an adult collection under the female-teacher and married-woman genres.
What reviewers agree on is the faces. Shifts of expression are given large panels, so that each turn of feeling is pressed home by the size of the frame. The line has its own quirks yet reads cleanly, and the drawing holds on to its charm from the first page to the last. Comic scenes are plentiful, and the register stays cheerful.
Sanagi Torajiro made a magazine debut in 2009 in Fujimi Shuppan's COMIC Momohime and, from 2011, published a book a year with that house. This third book, four years into the career, was the last to come from Fujimi Shuppan. From 2015 the artist moved to Core Magazine and went on to be known for work on the netorare theme; this volume closes the period just before that turn.
The print edition came out in May 2013 from Fujimi Comics, packaged with an audio drama DVD. The digital edition followed in 2015 under the Tatsumi Publishing name, and that release year is the one the hall records. On DLsite it has drawn more ratings than any other book by the artist.
