Sometimes a small book carries an artist's name further than any large one. Jingai Musume-tachi no Seijijou stands in the hall as the digital volume, four stories that all end happily, through which Mizone's readership grew.
It is a monster-girl collection in the cross-species genre, telling of love between human men and four non-human women: an oni girl, a mandragora that is a plant in human form, a mermaid and a snake princess. A young man buys a mandragora at a black market; a fish once kept as a pet comes back, grown into a mermaid, to be married; a snake princess who cannot bring herself to attack people plays host to a traveller in a story told like an old folk tale.
Readers agree on one point above all: there is no violation, no netorare and no tragic love here, nothing that leaves a scar once the book is closed. Each story is built around the nature of its species and the circumstances that nature brings, and the beauty of the drawing, held steady across all four, is noted again and again.
It came out in December 2016 from Bunendo's digital imprint as a digital-only release, falling between the 2015 debut collection and the second print collection. It gathers four stories drawn for COMIC BAVEL. A little over a year later those four were reprinted as the core of Bakemono Ecchi, the print collection Bunendo published next.
Within about three months it had reached the top of DLsite's weekly chart, and more than one reader names the mandragora story as the way they first found the artist. It ranks 149th in the commercial hall.
