An adult comic that names itself, plainly, an "ero-hon". Ero Hon Desu yo. stands in the hall as a first collection that announced its author's voice under that blunt title.
It is Takayanagi Katsuya's first collection, published in April 2017 in Core Magazine's Megastore Comics line. It gathers nine stories from Comic Hotmilk and elsewhere with one newly drawn piece. The settings range widely, from couples and classmates to co-workers at a part-time job and a dispatched android, and the cast includes a girlfriend who speaks in dialect and an inexperienced hero.
What reviews agree on is the care given to composition, where readers see the effort to make up for the characters' diffidence through situation and framing. The quirky design and expressions of the male characters come up again and again, and one review reads the sudden gags as embarrassment at formulaic plotting.
The newly drawn closing piece, Heinetsu Tairiku: Ero Manga ga Dekiru Shunkan, is an autobiographical story told as an interview with a manga artist, and several reviews point to the earnestness beneath its humour. It is a heavy, intense starting point, different in style from the second book that came later.
The digital edition appeared on FANZA at about the same time as the print edition and on DLsite in July. The book placed twenty-seventh in the first-half 2017 bestseller list at Toranoana Akihabara Store A and was named one of five category-prize winners in Kono Ero-Manga ga Sugoi! summer 2017. It stands 153rd among the hall's commercial works.
