APPRECIATION ── BY EHOF

Kedamono no Ie (Vol. 1) entered the hall through EHOF's award gate: it is the first half of a long work that was chosen for an annual prize in the very year it reached print.

Hakaba gathered a magazine serial into two volumes, and this first one holds chapters 1 through 6 of the title story along with one short piece. Official genre listings classify it as an adult work in the ryōjoku and chōkyō genres, the catalog's terms for coercion and subjugation. The story does not close at the end of this volume, and the readers who wrote about it did so already assuming they would carry on into the second.

Hakaba's first book appeared in 2008, and from Kowashite Kudasai in 2010 onward the publisher TI Net became the artist's principal home. Following Kōkai Benjo, this was the third title there, a long-form work arriving seven years after that first book. Within a body of work that has held to a consistently heavy register, it stands as the representative piece of the middle period. One DLsite reader recalls picking it up precisely because it came from the author of Kōkai Benjo, a small sign of how earlier readers followed the artist into the next long work.

The first print volume came out from MUJIN COMICS in April 2015, and by the end of that same year it had taken a category prize in Kono Ero-Manga ga Sugoi! 2015. The prize went to the work as a whole, both volumes together; the volume standing in the hall is the first. The digital edition followed about four years after print, in 2019, and that release year is the one the hall records.

The figures are an automated tally of public data from DLsite (commercial) and FANZA Books; nothing is adjusted by hand. The score and the ranking follow the formulas published in full in the Selection Criteria. The appreciation text is written by EHOF and has no connection to the rights holders or the retailer.
