Hypnosis, as a narrative device, comes in several forms. Saimin Spray stands in the hall as a book that unfolds those forms one after another within a single story.
It is an adult work in the hypnosis genre, set in a school. Izumi Tsukasa, a boy his classmates treat as an errand runner, is handed a hypnotic device by the school nurse and begins taking revenge on the classmate who looks down on him. A side story and two one-shots complete the volume.
Readers converge on how those forms are arranged. Hypnosis of a single person, hypnosis that leaves the subject aware, and hypnosis that rewrites the common sense of the whole school arrive in turn, keeping pace with the spread of the protagonist's control. In the end, retribution reaches the protagonist himself. The side story retells the same events from the vantage of two classmates who stood at the margins.
Ponkocchan is known for work built around oral sex as a theme and has published a run of collections with Hit Shuppansha. This book takes up hypnosis head-on, and its print edition appeared in June 2019. Counted by title in EHOF's own ledger, it arrived at a time when commercial works naming hypnosis were multiplying, and it can be read as part of that current.
There is no official English translation, yet reviews written directly in English praise its line work and its story. It stands 181st among the hall's commercial works and is the artist's only book in the hall.
