There is a way of watching a sexual scene without taking part in it. Prototype Lolita stands in the hall as a collection built entirely on that vantage.

A classroom, a train, a bathhouse, a school building after hours. Children get up to things behind the backs of adults, and the adults who happen to be present only flounder; none of them lays a hand on anyone. Nothing in the eight pieces is coerced, and no one ends up ruined. As the title promises, the subject is the unfinished body itself.

The line work of 40010 Shisakugata treats that unfinishedness as the virtue. A rib showing through, a chest just starting to rise, the sweat of a high childish temperature and the fine hair stuck to it. What readers name in unison is the faces, and the eyes: the linked stories of Boku no Tonari no Souma-san, in which the girl swears at the boy and never pushes his hand away, are treated as the artist's signature work. That the line is thin yet carries a sheen is an observation Chinese-language discussion arrives at too.

The previous collection, Prototype Mademoiselle, took the top prize at Kono Ero-Manga ga Sugoi!. Three years and more later, this is the first volume to gather the work published in COMIC LO. The publisher sold the artist as the one topping the magazine's own reader poll.

Among the commercial works in the hall it stands fifteenth.
