Seven years passed between collections, and the readers had not gone anywhere. Onnanoko wa Sono Yubi no Ugoki ni Yowain desu stands in the hall as the book that showed it, from the twenty-fifth year of Ryomoto Hatsumi's career.
It gathers eight stories from COMIC LO into an adult collection of the kind called loli, with girls as its protagonists. The settings range from the everyday to fantasy: a home tutor and a pupil, the house a brother and sister share, members of a manga club summoned to another world, a ninja whose infiltration goes wrong. Its subjects include incest, tentacles and restraint.
Readers agree on the cleanness of the line and the skill of the faces. The drawing keeps the look of the old "lolita manga" while carrying a precision of the present day, it is said. Plain girls with freckles and glasses are often given the lead, a choice readers recognise as the artist's own. The artist also knows where to place a laugh to release tension, and review after review remarks on how light the book leaves the reader.
The artist debuted in 1997 and has published collections with Akane Shinsha since 2006; this is the tenth collection, following its predecessor after a seven-year gap. The same cheerful aftertaste was noted in Urayama no Himitsu Kichi back in 2009.
The print edition placed tenth for the first half of 2021 at Toranoana's Akihabara A store, and the digital release reached first place on DLsite's daily chart the day after it went on sale. It stands 77th among the hall's commercial works.
