HALL OF FAME

The second volume of a series is where it must keep its device intact while bringing in someone new. "Okasare Saimin 2" did exactly that, raised its star rating in the process, and stands in the hall on the result.

Picking up from the first book, it opens with Sister Anna of the school informing the protagonist that he is to be expelled. This sister, who also serves on the teaching staff, is the new central figure, and the two classmates from the first volume return. It is the sequel to a hypnosis work set in a school.

Comment gathers most on the sister's characterisation: a staging that keeps the range of her expressions narrow and holds her coolness throughout is cited again and again. Readers also note how the book grows out of the hint planted at the close of the first volume, and closes in turn on a hook for the next. The protagonist never sets out to hypnotise anyone; others simply fall under the spell, and the harder he tries to contain the situation, the more he must lean on the device. Some readers point to that logic as what drives the series forward. The artwork is said to have advanced since the first book, and many say this volume reads perfectly well on its own.

The team is unchanged: planning by the circle Puu no Puupuupuu, cover colouring by its founder, the artist Puuzaki Puuna, and the manga by Shindou. It came out first on FANZA in December 2022, reaching No.1 in that store's rankings, and arrived on DLsite the following month. It also carries, revised, the bonus manga drawn for the print edition of the first book. Official translations reach six languages.

It stands 154th among the hall's doujin works and 8th in the Hypnosis division, where the first volume and "Hitozukiai ga Nigate na Miboujin no Yukionna-san to Noroi no Yubiwa" also sit: of the division's eight works, three come from a single circle.
