To draw the inhuman is to draw a creature that human reasoning never reaches. Makoto ni Zannen desu ga Bouken no Sho 1 wa Kiete Shimaimashita. stands in the hall for never once stepping back across that line.

In a small village orphanage a rumour is going round that there is a succubus parlour out in the ruins. The son of the hero who felled the demon king is taken along by friends, on the grounds that it costs nothing. Inside, boys his own age are already being eaten. What the title announces in advance is what these boys will lose before the night is out.

The advantage sits with the succubi from the first page to the last. No reversal is provided. What readers keep writing down is that this one-way traffic carries sweetness and dread in the same motion. Drained until the body dries out, restored at the breast, drained again. The gesture of speaking kindly while handling someone as food is exactly what makes them not human. And the gap between a face slackened by pleasure and that same face once the vitality has gone is a thing readers name specifically.

The circle KAMINENDO.CORP has been run since 1999 by the artist Akazawa RED. After eighteen years of selling only at conventions, this was the first title it put up for download. A short piece set in the same world had already appeared in a commercial collection the year before. A doujin book, then, with a long professional career standing behind it.

The series took its numbering from here, and a collected edition followed. In the hall it is first among the inhuman works, and high in both the shota and onee-shota categories.
