In adult manga, slowness is harder to sustain than speed. Bungaku Joshi ni Taberareru is a book held up by slowness alone.

An underclassman from the same literature club invites her senior over. Inside the room she keeps the initiative from beginning to end, and he never stops being the one receiving. That the feeling runs both ways is established early, which leaves no room for contempt or mockery to enter.

The craft is in how time is cut. One reader counted more than five panels before the tongue reaches the ear. One or two panels to a page, hand-drawn sound effects with soft edges, a picture lit no more brightly than by a candle. Over drawings that barely move, only the onomatopoeia rings loud. This is why readers describe it as an erotic novel turned directly into comics.

The circle Himawari no Tane has been active since 2014. The artist Taneno Nakami has returned again and again to relationships in which the woman does the pressing, and this is the first volume of the sequence at the center of that body of work.

The series has run to six volumes, and the two that follow this one entered the hall as well: Bungaku Joshi ni Taberareru 2 at 128th and Bungaku Joshi ni Taberareru 3 at 130th, with the book they started from standing twenty-third among doujin works. In English it has a database entry of its own, and official editions circulate in English, simplified and traditional Chinese, and Korean.
