How does a single comic show two scenes running at the same time? Onii-san, Watashitachi to Ocha Shimasen ka? is a book that answered the question.
Two men are stopped on a street at night by two high-school girls. The business at hand is an anime collaboration cafe, where somebody has to keep ordering until the right character's merchandise comes up. Most of the bill ends up with the men, and the thanks arrive on the spot.
From there the book splits in two and runs in parallel in separate places. The artist Morizuki Fumitaka braids the pairs together at the turn of the page. Tension gathers on one side; turn, and the other side is at its most violent. He waits for that heat to subside, then returns to the slower time on the first side. What survives is the individual breathing of each pair, which folding all four into one scene would have erased.
The sequence became the circle Kamishiki's signature and has since run to fifteen volumes. What stands in the doujin hall is the front of it, the first five. Volumes two through four came out in 2022, the same year as this one, so four books built in a single year passed through the gate together, with the fifth following the year after. This one, the book that fixed the characters, sits highest of the five at twenty-sixth.
