Solid work stands just inside the gate as well. Yawarakana Okujou to Miyazono is one such book.
On the school roof after hours, the narrator sees something he was not meant to see about the class representative, Miyazono Rina. It begins as something close to a threat, and then declines to darken. The two keep it going easily enough, and never become a couple.
Escurve's drawing stops just short of prettifying. A face not quite composed, flesh that falls softly. Readers reach for the same phrase: someone who could actually exist. The "soft" of the title names that line and nothing else.
Two further books about Miyazono followed this one. Almost no criticism of it was ever written. What carried this book to the hall were the numbers, and the short sentences readers left at the store.
