An artist who arrived through a newcomers' prize put the debut story's title on a first collection, and that collection placed third in a readers' poll. On the strength of that vote, Hitokano came into EHOF through its award gate, and in the print era it had also made a bookshop's annual chart.
It is a collection built mainly on one plot: a woman who already has a boyfriend or a husband is talked round by another man and drifts into a relationship with him. It belongs to netorare and to stories of married women. The publisher promoted the pattern as nagasare, being carried along, and store readers use the same word.
What readers agree on is the softness of the line that draws its people and the way it renders their faces; the artist's profile in an English-language manga database likewise names soft, economical character design as the hallmark of this hand. The stories are loosely linked as well, with the man from the opening story turning up again in the next.
Higenamuchi debuted in 2010 with the title story in COMIC Kairakuten and won that magazine's newcomer award, the Princess Prize, with it. This first book collects the work from that debut through 2011 with new material added, and it is where the artist's career begins.
The print edition came from Wanimagazine in December 2011, placed third in the Ero-Manga Taishou 2011, a readers' vote run by volunteers on an online forum, and made Toranoana's annual chart the following year. The year on the hall's roster, 2013, is that of the digital release. It ranks 207th in the commercial hall.
The figures are an automated tally of public data from DLsite (commercial) and FANZA Books; nothing is adjusted by hand. The score and the ranking follow the formulas published in full in the Selection Criteria. The appreciation text is written by EHOF and has no connection to the rights holders or the retailer.
