APPRECIATION ── BY EHOF

The work of an artist who has kept married women at the centre of the page caught the eye of an industry selection in the print era. Dzuma Chichi entered the hall through the record of awards: in the summer of 2015, Kono Ero-Manga ga Sugoi! named it one of its Pick Up titles.

It is an adult collection of what Japanese readers call hitozuma stories, centred on married women; the official classification lists infidelity and netorare, the story of a partner taken by another. Ten stories, one-shots and two-part pieces, are joined by a newly drawn essay comic in which the author appears as the subject.

Reviews meet on two points: a hand that shows wavering feelings through the face, and the sureness of drawing that renders a soft, tactile surface. Several readers add that the stories do not sink into misery and leave a bright aftertaste. Years earlier, the critic Goldman took up Aoi Hitori's 2011 collection and located what set this artist apart from other adult manga in the depiction of women's inner lives. The responses to this book point to the same place.

Aoi Hitori debuted under another name in 1996 and has drawn under the present one since 2003. Collected volumes under that name have continued, across several publishers, into 2026. This one appeared from Mediax's MD Comics line nineteen years after the debut, and it is the only one of the artist's books in the hall.

The print edition came out in 2015, the digital edition the following year. It stands 239th among the hall's commercial works.
