Readers' votes and a strong first week in the shops: two records carried this book into the hall. Trouble Scramble! is the second adult collection by Makita Yoshiharu, published the year before the artist began a serial in a mainstream magazine.
Released by Akaneshinsha under its TENMA COMICS imprint in July 2007, it gathers 14 short stories plus new material drawn for the book. Moving through settings that include a couple, a maid and a school, it tells romantic comedies carried along by bashful, sidelong dialogue. An English-language database files it under lolicon.
Little contemporary criticism of the book survives online. Since its digital release, though, a longtime reader has praised the way it balances heavy and light, calling its touch light without ever being careless.
Makita debuted in COMIC Mao in 2000. The artist's adult books number two, the earlier Radical Temptation and this one, and both placed high in a readers' poll. From 2008 Makita serialized the all-ages Rescue ME!, which was later made into an OVA.
In print, the book placed fifth on Toranoana's weekly chart of adult books in its week of release and sixth the week after. In the Ero-Manga Grand Prize, a readers' poll run by volunteers on the 2channel message board, it tied for second place for 2007, and that record is how it entered EHOF. The year 2016 on its record is the year of the DLsite digital edition. It stands 162nd among the hall's commercial works.
