The conventions of the school story can hold a startling idea. Juu○ Kyoushitsu stands in the hall as proof, for the invention of its setting and for drawing that tells its animals apart through real knowledge of them.
It is an adult work about bestiality, set in a school where every male student is an animal. Each chapter turns to a different girl among those handed a collar by the student council and appointed to a committee.
Readers name the oddity of this premise first and the range of animals second. Alongside dogs and horses come bears, sharks, a tapir and a fur seal, creatures rarely seen elsewhere, and several reviews agree that each is drawn with its habits and ecology in mind. The girls stand in different places from chapter to chapter, too: one has a boyfriend, one tries to get out of her appointment, one investigates the school. One reviewer points to a device by which the opening colour pages only make sense once the book has been read to the end.
The artist Chikiko has made bestiality a constant subject in the pages of Buster Comic, a magazine whose contributors are said to each specialise in a particular taste. Readers know the name as that of a specialist in the theme.
The print edition was published by T.I.Net in September 2016, and the digital release some two months later went straight to first place on DLsite's daily and weekly charts. It stands 177th among the hall's commercial works.
