Adult manga can build an entire world of its own. Implicity stands in the hall as the proof.

Set in a far-future city cut into strata, an above and a below, it is science fiction that readers have taken up as both erotica and cyberpunk. The city is home to girls made by human hands, and the story is told from their side. The first volume carries the subtitle Donors make human world peace. Each short episode asks where the human ends and the made thing begins, and the episodes lean on one another until a single picture of the world assembles itself.

Higashiyama Show's craft lives in what is left undrawn. The geography of the city, its currency — little of this is ever spoken aloud. The reader builds it from the detail of the page. More than one critic has arrived at the same observation: the texture of this book rises out of its empty space. Others call it hard, full-bodied science fiction, and note that however heavy the theme, the drawing never turns muddy.

Higashiyama Show debuted in COMIC LO in 2006 and has published there almost without exception ever since; this serialization ran in its pages for more than four years. Eleven years after that debut, it is the artist's fifth book.

A category prize at Kono Ero-Manga ga Sugoi!; an entry for the 38th Japan SF Grand Prize; an animated adaptation the same year. In Taiwan, readers on a forum followed it episode by episode while it was still running, and English-language databases carry an entry for it as well.
