There is a way of spending a whole volume on the description of one world, rather than lending a world to a set of short stories. Dolls enters the hall on that scale.

A law has been passed. Citizens are chosen at random, fitted with a collar and sold as tools for sexual relief. Eight chapters, each with a different heroine, turn in succession toward a different corner of the same world. The reasons people buy differ from chapter to chapter as well.

What Fan no Hitori draws in most closely here is not the act but the design of the institution: the boxes stacked in shop windows, the air holes that give away a living body inside, the second-hand price tag, the collection of units nobody wants any more. Readers keep pointing at exactly this, and the display shelf of the opening returns in the final chapter. That thoroughness is what makes the one exception land — the wife bought out of a violent marriage — a chapter singled out separately by readers at two different storefronts.

Since the debut this artist had worked in the pages of Kill Time Communication. The serial behind this book moved to T.I.Net's Comic Mugen Tensei and ran for two and a half years. Against Dropout, a first collection that bound unlike short pieces together, this is the first time a whole book holds a single world.

Published in 2018, and sixth that year in the Eromanga Taisho readers' vote. English-language databases carry an entry for it. Nineteenth among the hall's commercial works.
