The eyes on the cover alone announce the character of the book. Ijiwaru Connect stands in the hall as Aoi Chizuru's first collection, five years of short stories held together by the rendering of expression.
Set in high school, it is an adult collection of eight stories about boys and girls at the same school: seniors and juniors, clubmates and committee members, childhood friends. Most of the stories first appeared in Akaneshinsha's COMIC Kou. Every one of them ends brightly, with the two as a couple, and the official genre listing also places the book under otoko-uke.
Where reviews converge most is on expression, above all the mischievous eyes of the girl on the cover; the wide, horizontally drawn eyes are taken as the artist's signature. Readers also note that the boys are given distinct faces and personalities. Ijiwaru de Amaama, the story featuring the cover girl, runs to sixty pages and sits at the centre of the collection.
Aoi Chizuru is also described as an artist already familiar from the package art of audio works, and is active in doujin as the circle Aoi Denno. This book took the stories of an earlier digital collection, Seishun Scheme, added new work, and brought them into print for the first time.
Print and digital editions appeared in November 2020. The magazine where the stories began had folded in 2018, and the book preserves them in a single volume from a label of the same line. It stands 68th among the hall's commercial works.
