The sign over the door says demon-slaying; what readers found inside was a family comedy. Taima no Haha stands in the hall for that lightness of touch, and as the first book of a series that kept going for years.

It is a 26-page short that the circle Puppukupu distributed at Comic Market 96, with art credited on FANZA to Kawaisou. A widowed mother who guards a clan of demon slayers sets out to test whether the young man her only daughter has brought home is fit to be the family's heir, and the test turns into an affair. It belongs to the mature-woman genre and turns on the age gap; seen from the daughter's side, it is a story of having a partner taken away.

Reviewers agree that the demon-slaying premise is little more than a nameplate, and that the story runs on the comedy of the mother herself. She hides behind the family name and plays the stern matriarch, but cannot keep her true feelings out of sight, and that gap, along with her turns of phrase, carries the humour. Many readers note the ending, in which she changes even her hairstyle to look younger, and several remark on how pleasant an aftertaste it leaves.

The circle had been selling on FANZA before it moved its back catalogue to DLsite in a single batch in September 2019; this new book was the last in that row. Four sequels and a remastered compilation followed.

Most of its recorded sales sit on the FANZA side. Among DLsite doujin manga, titles containing the character for "mother" grew from 260 in 2019 to more than 800 in 2025, while their share of the whole stayed at around 3 percent. It ranks 138th among the hall's doujin works.
