The mainstream of a genre becomes a form only because someone redraws it again and again. Onee-chan no Tomodachi ga Ecchi na Hito Bakari Datta kara stands in the hall as the form of onee-shota itself.

The older sister's friends are over. Across twenty-nine full-colour pages, the boy in the back room is found by them one after another over a handful of days. A video one of them takes gets around, and the next friend arrives. The sister herself passes through in a few panels, seen from behind. The lead stays on the older side from first page to last and never changes hands.

Higumaya draws round lines and soft bodies, and still nothing turns coarse. What readers name specifically is the gloss on a mouth, a mole on a breast, the instant a face shifts by a fraction. The craft shows most in the boy. From turning away in shock to moving his hips of his own accord, the same guileless face carries every stage without a break. The rate at which passivity changes state is what this book is about.

The circle began publishing in 2011, and this is its twelfth release. In 2014 it put out a book about one friend of an older sister; five years later the same material was drawn again with the friends made plural.

It stands first in both the onee-shota and the shota categories. Of the circle's twenty-one titles, only this one carries a figure of a different order.
