Some books stay in readers' memories long after their release. ♭38℃ Loveberry Twins stands in the hall on the strength of a readers' poll that went back, more than three years on, to ask what had lasted.
It is set in the same high school as its predecessor, ♭37℃, and follows three students: twin sisters a year ahead, and a junior who has never been able to stand up to them. In time the pecking order among the three is reversed, and the book follows where the resulting love triangle leads. The couple from the previous book appears at the margins.
Two contemporary responses survive, both from the year after publication. One says the book fully drew, through a new cast, what the first volume had left unfinished; the other reads it as a separate story from the same school, on a gentler course than its predecessor. Readers of the digital edition point to the soundness of the story and characterization and to the care taken over detail.
It was the sixth book by Tsukino Jogi, in the fifth year of that career, and the third from Core Magazine. The stories first ran in COMIC Megastore. Before the artist turned to stories of married women, this is where the early school-set work reached its height.
The print edition appeared in 2004 and placed sixth in the 2004 annual adult comics ranking posted at Toranoana's Akihabara No. 1 store. Its way into this hall, however, was an award: first place in the Eromanga Taisho for 2004. That result comes from a retrospective vote, held in 2008 after the original poll had been abandoned. The year on the roster, 2014, is that of the digital edition, and the book stands 197th among the hall's commercial works.
