The artist's method was already in place in the very first book. Honnou stands in the hall as Eightman's point of departure, for storyboarding that carries a story through few pages without waste and for drawing whose quality never dips from one story to the next.

It collects work from Comic Hotmilk. The first half holds two two-part stories: Oninote, built around shogi matches between a student and the club's faculty adviser, and Muragoe, about a girl who reads aloud for pay in a wealthy household. The second half gathers shorter pieces about couples, set in school clubs and elsewhere. The subjects of the first half are non-consent and training stories that turn on a gap in standing.

From the months after publication, reviewers agreed that it was hard to believe this was a debut collection. They point to paneling and direction that economize on pages, and to quality that holds even as the book's temper swings to its opposite between the two halves. Many praise its atmosphere and its handling of inner life, and Oninote is the story readers single out most often.

The print edition came out from Core Magazine in March 2018. Mebuki followed in 2020, and Eightman-sensei no Okage de Kanojo ga Dekimashita! in 2023.

At Toranoana's Akihabara store A it placed eleventh for the first half of 2018 and fourteenth for the year. In 2020, when the second collection appeared, it returned to FANZA's annual mail-order chart of printed comics at 82nd. It stands 174th among the hall's commercial works.
