Maid Yome stands in the hall as Kizuki Aruchu's first collection: the book that became the best-selling adult comic across the thirteen years one Akihabara bookshop kept its tally, right up to the day the shop closed.
Published in Core Magazine's Hot Milk Comics line, it is built around the title series that ran in Comic 0EX. A cool, reserved woman from the flat next door, unable to make her rent, moves in wearing a maid's uniform. Other pieces centre on girlfriends and on a princess, and the book holds together around maids and the cool-but-tender kuudere type.
Several reviews remark that every piece comes with a newly drawn epilogue, something they have rarely seen in a single volume. The drawing is steady and the faces expressive, and the stories keep to the gentle pace of one-to-one romance. Readers who waited for the digital edition recall their first encounter with the book nine years before, and more than one review finds that it has not dated.
The print edition came out in June 2009 and sold out on its first day at Toranoana Akihabara Store A and other shops; the reprint was gone within days. It topped that store's annual bestseller list for the year and placed second in FANZA's mail-order annual ranking for print comics, and ten years later a commemorative fair was held for it. The digital edition followed in 2018.
In the National Diet Library it is still the only book under the artist's own name. It is also recorded at the top of the 2009 Eromanga Taisho, a readers' poll run by volunteers, and it stands 137th among the hall's commercial works.
The figures are an automated tally of public data from DLsite (commercial) and FANZA Books; nothing is adjusted by hand. The score and the ranking follow the formulas published in full in the Selection Criteria. The appreciation text is written by EHOF and has no connection to the rights holders or the retailer.
