Take the effects an artist is known for and pour them into one continuous story that fills the whole book. Milk Mamire stands in the hall for how completely it does exactly that.
Two popular idols, Arisa and Botan, hide a constitution that makes them lactate. They share the secret with a young man who has a bodily affliction of his own, and in time he subjects them both to training. Told in a single six-chapter serial, it is a long-form work in the training-and-corruption vein, built around idols.
The architecture rests on the gap between front and back: the flawless idol in public, and the person shown only to the one who knows. As the story advances, scenes of ordinary life thin out. Readers agree on two signatures, pages crowded with information in which fluids take centre stage, as the title promises, and the ahegao, the undone facial expression. A bookshop announcement for a later volume would go on to present the artist as the foremost practitioner of that expression.
Fukuhachima Naoto debuted with the collection Ahekore in 2014, and this fourth book followed five years later, inheriting the "mamire" of its title from Tsuyu Mamire. Early reviewers already noted the barrage of effects and the swing in expression; here those traits unfold in stages within a single plot. The chapters first ran in Comic Megastore Alpha.
The print edition came out from Megastore Comics in July 2019. It ranks highest of the artist's three works in the hall and 137th among commercial works.
