Okusama wa Shoujo sets down a single invented law and then lets a married couple's misadventures roll on as comedy. Built around that comic series, Amazume Ryuta's collection enters the hall on the strength of a high finish in the 2002 readers' poll.
The core of the book is the series whose titles begin "Okusama wa...". In a fictional society that has lowered the legal age of marriage, it follows Akira and his much younger wife Mitsuko, who still attends school, through one household uproar after another. It is a school comedy built on an age-gap marriage, and its official genre tags include loli and school life. A handful of standalone stories fill out the volume.
What readers agree on is its brightness as the comedy of a devoted couple, and the density of its drawn pages. One reader of the digital edition notes that the book closes with the author's own commentary on every story, set in lettering so fine it has to be enlarged to be read.
The publisher presents it as Amazume's second collection. The first, Mitsuko, took first place in the inaugural edition of the same poll, and the third book placed fifth the following year, so the artist's work finished near the top three years running.
The Eromanga Taisho is a readers' poll run by volunteers on an online message board, and this book was its fifth-place title for 2002. The print edition came out that year from TI-Net under the MUJIN COMICS imprint; the year on the roster, 2019, is that of the digital release. It stands 227th among the hall's commercial works.
