At a time when adult manga had largely stopped letting a story run across volumes, this book brought a long narrative to a close in two. PANDRA: White Desire, Black Hope 2 (standard edition) stands in the hall as that concluding volume.
Across the final eight chapters, Shirley, who came to the school of magic in search of Pandora's Box, finally holds it, and must face the truth hidden between herself and Reily, the friend she made there. In subject matter it continues the first volume's sexual violence by tentacles and monsters, including group assault.
A review written at the time of publication named its greatest strength as carrying a substantial story without thinning the density expected of adult manga. DLsite reviews return again and again to the ending, in which every character, the antagonists included, is given a hopeful resolution, and others say the story reads as well as any general-market book.
The second volume first appeared in December 2011 as a special edition packaged with a drama CD and a colour booklet; this standard edition followed about five months later. It was Erect Sawaru's fifth book and the third with Kill Time Communication, published seven years after the artist's debut.
The story ended here; the world did not. The following year brought a second part with a former supporting character as its lead, Shinkyoku no Grimoire: PANDRA saga 2nd story. Among the hall's commercial works it stands 48th.
