An artist who had built a body of work on short-story collections filled an entire volume with a single serial. Awa no Ohimesama enters the hall as a book that chose that form, drawing its strength from the same place and the same faces returning again and again.

It holds twelve chapters: an introductory episode followed by chapters one through eleven. Each mostly closes on its own, yet the setting and the lead never change, and characters who appear once come back later. The further one reads, the fuller the cast becomes. Official genre listings classify it as loli; it is a book for adult readers.

Many readers note that the characters are told apart not only by temperament but by clothing and hairstyle, so that each one stays in the memory. Praise for the sureness of the drawing runs through the reviews as well. The other point readers keep returning to is that the book as a whole never leans toward darkness, which sets it against Himehajime, the previous year's collection known for its subdued tone.

The print edition appeared in September 2018, a year and four months after Himehajime, with the digital edition released the same day. Yui-chan Satsueikai followed at the end of the next year.

In its year of publication it placed 28th on the annual adult manga bestseller list at Toranoana's Akihabara store A. Kitani Shii's books have appeared on that annual list time and again since Mind of Sisters in 2008. It stands 84th in the commercial hall.
