A different couple in every story, and only a few pages for each. Ahekore, the book debut of Fukuhachima Naoto, stands in the hall for the eleven short pieces that first put this artist's work between covers.
Childhood friends, an upperclassman and a junior, brother and sister, teacher and student, a young lady and her household cook: the pairing changes from story to story, and each one follows two people until their feelings meet. It is an adult anthology centred on romance. Some of the stories are set at school, and the official genre listing also names incest and younger sisters. The title works in "ahegao", the name of the facial expression with which the artist's name would come to be linked.
A review blog written just after the print release picked out the fine, delicate line and a bright, showy style made to catch the eye on a shop shelf. Readers of the digital edition arrive at the same place: a sure hand at differentiating expressions, and a standard of drawing held steady from the first page to the last. Several also note that no story turns to assault or to a bleak ending; each closes once the romance is fulfilled.
Most of the stories first ran in Sanwa Shuppan's Comic Masyo, and the book appeared under the same publisher's Sanwa Comics imprint. From the second volume on, most of the artist's books came from Core Magazine, and the work widened into book-length serials and hypnosis stories. The point of departure was a bundle of short love stories.
The print first edition and the digital release both came out in 2014. It stands 205th among the hall's commercial works.
