Monster-girl material can reach a wide audience when it is handled with a light touch and an easy page. Kemopai: Sakusei Girls stands in the hall as an early book that found its many readers through exactly that judgement.
The spine of the collection is Makai Ryuugaku!, a three-chapter series about a male student who goes abroad to a school in the demon realm and the demon girls who attend it. Around it are gathered nine pieces in all, each about fantasy women who take the lead: a wolf girl modelled on Little Red Riding Hood, a princess from a smartphone game, the spirit of a spring, a robot from the future. The official genre tags include reverse rape, male-receptive and shota.
What reviewers agree on first is the mood: the whole book is bright and cheerful. The non-human traits stop at ears and horns, a "close to human" design that several readers say makes it easy to recommend widely. They also point to drawing that holds its quality to the last page, and to page layouts that read easily.
Marui Maru's first collection appeared in 2012, and this fifth book came in the third year. Only the first chapter of Makai Ryuugaku! appeared beforehand as a digital single, and the two that follow were drawn for the book. By 2025 the artist's collections numbered nineteen.
Published in 2014. Marui Maru holds perpetual honours in the hall of artists, and of the five hall works under that name this one ranks highest; it is 46th among the hall's commercial works.
