Round faces, soft lines, and a different situation in every story. Muchimuchi Cream Pie stands in the hall as an early collection showing how soon Marui Maru's drawing style and range as a storyteller had settled.
It gathers eleven harem stories that ran between roughly 2012 and 2014 in COMIC Anthurium, the magazine that became the artist's main home. The opening piece is set at a girls' school; the others take up relationships such as incest between siblings or within step-families, an idol, and a teacher and students.
Readers agree first on the look of the page: round-faced characters drawn in soft, rounded lines, a pairing they name as the artist's signature. Several say the style seems idiosyncratic at first and then grows on them. Pages that fit many figures at once give the book its density. The eleven stories stand alone and range widely, from a school disciplinary committee to a baseball team to an idol's video shoot.
It is the sixth book, published in the fourth year after Marui Maru's debut collection. The line it established, short stories with many figures for the same magazine, would later be pushed, in Fuwa-Toro Jusei Chuudoku!, toward far larger casts.
Published under GOT's Canopri Comics imprint, it ranks 114th in the commercial hall and is one of five works by Marui Maru in the hall.
